The Emerald Job

It was a nice day. For Viz that was an understatement.

For once in a long time everything was calm. The orphanage had plenty of help meaning Viz didn't need to lend a hand. The money from the bank would last awhile. And Rev was in his room watching Saturday morning cartoons. It was peaceful, and boring.

Viz was lazily flipping through tv channels until a news story caught his eye.

A rabbit woman was reporting on his bank robbery. Viz ignored most of it except, "The footage during the robbery was lost, according to officer Ria, due to faulty cameras. The only thing for certain is that a dragon was responsible." The camera then showed the kid that he wedgied before leaving. Luckily the kid was too nervous to even remember if Viz was a girl or boy.

"Guess I'm in the clear" Viz said to himself. "For now" Viz heard then spun around scared.

"Mark! How'd you get in here!?" he asked seeing Mark standing in the doorway.

"Door was unlocked. And your security was off." Mark said sitting in a chair "You wanna make 10 grand?"

Viz looked and saw that Mark was right but was confused by his question "How?"

"You know a certain wolf by the name Jake Emerald?" Mark asked as Viz's eyes filled with anger.

Viz knew him. Everyone knew the Emeralds. Jake was a mercenary. Everyone called him the world's best mercenary. People said he did 100 contracts a day. Even if it wasn't true Jake never failed a job. Every merc group wanted him. He worked for 5 major groups at once. However, Jake only cared about the money so he sold as many of the groups' secrets as could to police, other groups, or anyone that paid alot. No one tried to stop him because Jake was possibly the strongest and fastest wolf in the world. After that Jake was rich. Like buying mansions and diamonds was common for him. Then Jake got married and had a daughter who grew up as a spoiled brat.

Viz couldn't care less about the other stuff. The reason Viz hated Jake was because of what he did or at least tried to do.

7 years ago everyone but Viz and Lilly were asleep one night. Viz was sweeping the floors wanting to help while Lilly cleaned the dishes until she heard someone knocking. Viz didn't listen after she let the man in, Lilly said that was naughty. Viz stayed out of sight until he heard Lilly say no very loud.

"I don't care about your money!" "$100,000 seems fair" "You'd let these kids be homeless!" Viz heard her say then realized the man was trying to buy the orphanage.

"Get out and don't come back Jake!" Lilly said yelled as he left but stopped in the doorway "You'll change your mind"

Lilly didn't and never told anyone about the offer but Viz knew. And he'd get revenge.

"I like that look in your eye and I'll take it as a yes." Mark said "Tonight his daughter turns 16 and a half so she demanded a party. Dozens of rich families and news groups will be there." Mark explained that Ruby, Jake's daughter, ticked off a lot of people and $10,000 would be given to who ever ruined the brat's party by humilating her.

"Wait, I thought I was going after Jake?" "Bad idea. Jake could take 10 of you while blindfolded, which is why turning invisible isn't how you should do it." Mark said telling Viz how Jake could track any scent that even came inside his mansion. "You're gonna walk in as a guest with a fake invitation, set some trap for the girl, then run out before Jake gets a hold of you."

"It won't be that easy but have my back right?" Viz asked  "Nope, I'm busy tonight but good luck" Mark said leaving.

"You're kidding right?" Viz asked as Mark left "Mark? You're kidding me!" Viz then noticed that Mark left a tuxedo on the chair with a fake invitation in the pocket.

"This is a joke" Viz said "What is?" Rev asked walking in.

"It's a trick. Mark is setting you up to fail." Rev said after Viz caught him up.

"Maybe" Viz said thinking about it. Even if he went for it with Mark's plan he'd be visible and alone in a mansion filled with security guards, a wolf that could make him pee himself with one glance, and a crowd to watch him if he failed. But Viz would never forgive Jake for what he tried to pull.

"I'm gonna do it." Viz said seriously.

Rev tried his best to stop Viz from going but Viz was going no matter what. Rev offered to go too but he didn't have another invite or tux. Instead Rev had another idea that he had to finish before Viz left in 9 hours.

The little fox pulled out a folder he kept under his bed that read 'Top secret invention ideas by Rev, please don't read' in red marker.

"This'll keep you safe" Rev said pulling out half made blueprints and rushing to his lab.

---8 hours and 59 minutes later

Viz was looking at himself in a mirror "This feels like a scene from some spy movie." Viz said while checking his tux then went to leave.

"Viz wait!" Rev called running "I made this...for...you." Rev said exhausted  before passing out. Viz smiled as he carried Rev to bed but noticed a bracelet in his paw and put it on. "Thanks Rev" he said before leaving.

'Don't mess this up' went through Viz's head as he handed the bouncer his invitation.

"Is this fake?"  "No!"  "I was just messing with you calm down.NEXT!"

"Jerk" Viz said under his breath as he walked in and was blown away by how huge the inside was. Even with news crew and dozens of guests the house wasn't crowded at all. Viz almost forgot the mission but heard yelling coming from the kitchen about how the food wasn't perfect because of some stupid reason.

Viz joined everyone else by the stairs as they all waited for Ruby to appear but Viz was only looking at one wolf, Jake. Jake didn' t even notice Viz as he and his wife waited for their daughter.

Finally, Ruby started walking down the stairs wearing some expensive dress as everyone stared at the wolf girl.  Before she could speak a certain dragon flew over the crowd and went to grab her only to be knocked out of the air by her father.

"Nice try mercenary" Jake said grabbing his victim's briefs and pulling it way over his head making him squeel. "Dang" Viz thought watching "Good thing I can't fly"

"Any other mercenaries here better run now" Jake said making five others take off running to the exit only to be captured by the guards and dragged back by their underwear or panties.

"I'll give you six a choice. I call the cops or.." Jake started

"Or what?" the six asked nervously.

Jake smirked as his daughter stepped forward "You stay as decorations" Ruby said making them confused until the chandelier in the room lowered. After a few seconds everyone could tell what she meant. The side of it had been altered to have sturdy metal hooks all around it. At least 20 hooks were on it to punish anyone who was left hanging there.

Nobody said anything for a minute until one deer girl spoke up "I don't want to go to jail" which the others agreed.

"Good choice." Ruby said with an evil smile "Servants" she said as the six were all put on a different hook by a maid or butler making them all squirm trying to get comfortable.

"Not just yet" Ruby said as the chandelier was reraised making them all cry or kick in pain and embarassement. The crowd laughed and the news crews recorded the whole thing.

"A word of advice" Jake called out "Unless you want to join our decorations. Don't try anything stupid" Jake said as the actual party started.

Viz watched the whole thing as the Emeralds tricked then hung the others who had the same job as him. 'I'm not going anywhere' Viz thought.
